Today we had fun exploring with states of matter. The kids worked in pairs to try and melt an ice cube faster than their classmates. They worked at applying different forces to the cube (heat, pressure, friction, breaking apart) to get it to melt. We then discussed the ways that helped the most to melt the ice… It seemed that direct heat and patience worked better than other methods, although we had some creative kids trying different methods! Once we finished our melting we discussed what kind of change (Physical or Chemical) a change of state was. It was a fun way to experiment with States of Matter!
