Learning Through Leadership

Monthly Archives: December 2013

Next week is sure to be a busy, fun, super exciting week. We have a lot going on! It is spirit week at school and the kids can participate in the themes for each day. The themes are below. During spirit week we are accepting donations for the Leader in Me program at school, kids can bring in change if they want to make a donation.

Monday: Crazy Sock day
Tuesday: Favorite Sports Team
Wednesday: Hat Day
Thursday: Pajama day

This week we have plans to learn about Holidays around the world, finish projects in math, and do some holiday crafts. We also have the High School Chorale coming to perform on Wednesday, this is my absolute FAVORITE holiday activity that happens at school. Thursday we are planning on a fun movie in the afternoon with hot chocolate and candy canes. Please see the permission slip in your child’s folder and return it so that your child can participate in the snack that day.

With all of these fun activities the students sometimes get a little crazy ummm antsy. Please remind your child that we still expect them to be on their best behavior this week and that in order to have time for fun activities we need to get our work done first. This is a great time to discuss the 7 habits with the kids, especially being proactive (choosing our own behaviors) and putting first things first (getting work done before we play).

I’m sure that together we can make sure that this is a great week for all of us! Enjoy your weekend, stay warm!

We spent some time this afternoon learning how to fold a box. While we were folding we learned about fractions, prime numbers, composite numbers, symmetry, parallel lines, perpendicular lines and congruence! Whew… It was a lot of math in one little box!

Check out our work below and tonight ask your child about:

Congruent shapes and what that means

What a prime number is

What a composite number is

Equivalent fractions

Lines of symmetry

Parallel lines

Perpendicular lines.
