Last week we gave our fourth graders a challenge to try and read a variety of types of literature this nine weeks. We know that they are all loving their Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Captain Underpants books (I mean who doesn’t love those), but we want them to try out different genres and see if they can find a new love. Their book stack has 6 different genres listed on it and their goal is to read one of each type by the end of the nine weeks. The Genres are: Realistic Fiction, HIstorical Fiction, Non-Fiction (includes biographies), Fun Fiction (Insert Dork Diaries, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Captain Underpants here), Mystery and Fantasy. When they complete a book from the genre and take an AR quiz they can color in the “spine” of the genre on their stack and fill in the title. These are hanging in the hall so they can check out recommendations from their friends. Ask your child about their book stack, and help them to find a book to go in each category. Maybe you will find a new series, author, or genre that you both will love!
This is a copy of our books stacks that are hanging in the hall…some of them already have spines filled in! Awesome!
